"...you are no longer strangers... but... members of the household of God." (Ephesians 2:19)

The members of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church welcome you! We hope this website gives a glimpse of what our congregation is about and has to offer. We seek to welcome and accept everyone regardless of differences of gender, race, nationality, economic, social, political or sexual orientation. Join us to experience God’s amazing grace with us!

We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God's grace.

We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) within the Metro Chicago Synod. While each congregation has its own unique feel, features and focus, Grace is connected through partnerships with others across the U.S. and around the globe. What unites us is our faith conviction about God’s amazing grace and our commitment to do God’s work with our hands.

Located in the Chicago suburb of Mount Prospect, Grace is made up of a diverse group of people from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Founded in the early 50's, the people of Grace have continued to adapt to the spiritual educational and social needs of our neighboring communities.

You will find that our congregation emphasizes discovering, exploring and deepening a relationship with God, rather than observing certain rituals, teachings, or other kinds of requirements. We trust in God’s grace and follow Jesus example for faith and life, based on the insights of Martin Luther and guided by the Holy Spirit.

We believe "the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all." (Titus 2:11)

Grace is God’s gift of unconditional love, undeserved forgiveness, and undying hope. As Christians we follow the example Jesus Christ provided for living by trust in God’s amazing goodness.

Everything we do as followers of Jesus is in response to God’s goodness. We are offering our worship and service gratefully, not as a requirement for being saved or gaining God’s favor.

The 16th century church reformer, Martin Luther, stressed that what makes Christianity unique is that God came to us in Jesus. So, we do not need to work our way to God. Instead, Jesus offers life free from guilt of sin or fear of death. By simply trusting in his death and resurrection, we live and serve gratefully with joy and hope.

It is the amazing promises of forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus’ death and resurrection that are at the heart of our beliefs about God’s gift of grace.

  • What we Lutherans believe and do to practice our faith is based on the Scriptures in the Bible and insights from the historical experience of the church.
  • The church is a gathering of all people who celebrate and share God’s loving goodness.
  • The sacramental rituals of batism and communion convey the gracious gifts of God in Jesus through God’s biblical Word and ordinary elements.
  • How we live as individual followers of Jesus and as a worshipping community of faith is guided by the Holy Spirit.

We believe that...

  • We are a people with a mission, sent by God to our neighborhood, community and all the world.
  • Every church member is a minister - a servant of Jesus Christ.
  • Prayer transforms lives and strengthens the church.
  • Families of every kind are a blessing from God and should be fully included in the life of the church.
  • Developing the faith of our children and youth is the responsibility of every member.
  • Grace Church is called to grow - not just in numbers, but in the depth of our faith in Jesus Christ.
  • God is generous and good and we find joy in sharing our blessings with others.
  • Christ meets us in the person of the hungry, the elderly, the child, the homeless and the stranger.
